Design Inspiration

Gerald is inspired by the amazing animals at Edinburgh Zoo and is named after the real Gerald, a Nubian giraffe, who has been a resident of the zoo since May 2021. Gerald is covered in a patch work of illustrated animals who all live at the zoo. They are painted all over the sculpture to look like a giraffe’s patterned skin.

Lucy Hebden (Lucy Loves Design)

Lucy (Lucy Loves Design) is a surface pattern and printed textile designer. She graduated from Loughborough University School of Art & Design with a First-Class Honours degree in Printed Textiles. Loving to draw, paint, collage and explore new ways of making patterns, Lucy’s work is inspired by the natural world and always starts with hand painted motifs. These are then developed into digitalised patterns for fashion, home furnishings, interior products, stationery and wall-coverings. She recently discovered a new surface for her patterns when she painted them all over a giant rocket sculpture for another Wild in Art trail. When Lucy isn’t designing, she passes on her love of learning by teaching art and design in a Leicestershire secondary school.
