Paolozzi Pop: Giraffe of the Day

Sculpture Name: Paolozzi Pop

Artist Name: Victoria J Patton

Location: St Mary’s Cathedral

Sponsor Name: John Lewis & Partners

This design is inspired by the work of artist, and son of Edinburgh, Eduardo Paolozzi. Victoria J Patton’s Paolozzi Pop specifically draws influence from the famous artist’s wonderful use of colour and geometric shapes. The finished sculpture combines this influence with simplified and stylised versions of giraffe markings, resulting in a joyous visual feast of colour, shape and giraffe-tastic design!

Victoria is a multi-disciplinary artist qualified in Textile Design from Falmouth Collage of Art in 2004. Since then, she has taken on painting commissions, graphic design and illustration work.

Paolozzi Pop’s design is intended to be a visual explosion of joy and colour that will both delight the viewer and celebrate the work of Paolozzi, using busy, decorative design and bright, unusual colours.

In May, John Lewis & Partners Edinburgh reopened its doors and celebrated the completion of a five-year, multi-million-pound refurbishment project. As part of the newly opened St James Quarter, the department store boasts a World of Design home styling hub, men’s and women’s styling studios, a Beauty Society, and an optician, in addition to five floors of the latest in fashion, homeware, beauty and tech.
